Senior Site Reliability Engineer → Tech Lead

Duo Security (Cisco)
  • Repeatedly hand-picked for cross-org “tiger teams” — small groups stood up to deliver high-priority platform work fast, often outside any single team's scope. As Tech Lead, I now lead the design and delivery of platform projects, producing architecture and implementations that go to staff architects for review.
  • Two months after joining, pulled into a three-person tiger team to build “mPoP” — multiple points of presence: built out the initial Kubernetes infrastructure so MFA takes the lowest-latency path and survives a regional outage by failing auth over to backup regions.
  • Designed and onboarded whole regions, including standing up the UAE presence end-to-end.
  • Refactored cross-cloud (AWS + GCP) platform monitoring off Python 2, modernized the ops repos to Python 3, and worked across the CNI/networking stack — Cilium, Calico.
  • Promoted to Tech Lead (Nov 2024) on Core Cloud Services, where I designed and built an internal config-management service delivering managed TOML configuration to applications and deployments.
  • Built an internal AI agent that triages on-call incidents across services and repos during a focused 30-day AI initiative, and now drive a security-findings program across the infrastructure.

First Software Engineer → Engineering Lead

Hired as the first software engineer; left having productionized a single-site shop into the multi-brand platform that scaled the business 10×.

  • First software-engineering hire. Inherited one site on a lightly-maintained CakePHP fork and rebuilt nearly the entire stack — migrated everything to Laravel and kept it current across releases, writing custom Laravel packages and native PHP extensions (e.g. patched broken ncurses bindings on a maintained fork used by our scanner tooling).
  • Before me, the company's VP hand-wrote and manually deployed all the code. I brought the first real engineering discipline — source control, unit testing, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and automated CI — replacing an entirely manual release process.
  • Architected and owned ORMAN — the custom internal platform the entire company operated out of. Far more than order management: it unified orders & subscriptions, marketing, accounting, warehouse production, and shipment tracking across a multi-brand e-commerce portfolio, alongside storefronts in Laravel/CakePHP, Shopify, and Magento.
  • Productionized the data layer: built a custom ORM and the shop's first read/write model (write primary + read replicas), and upgraded every database — the foundation that carried the platform through its growth.
  • Built much of ORMAN's front-end in Vue.js, backed by a large hand-written CSS framework that later moved to roughly half Bootstrap.
  • Built ORMAN's accounting & analytics module — revenue, costs, and BOM (bill-of-materials) spend broken down overall and per warehouse — giving the business real financial visibility for the first time.
  • Ran Amazon, Walmart, and Sam's Club marketplace integrations and built a vendor fulfillment portal — other companies sold through us and sent us their orders to fulfill; fulfillment was the moat.
  • Wrote ORMAN's warehouse production, order-routing, and package-tracking engine that sorted orders across warehouses, and built the hardware “lane scanners” that drove the warehouse floor (managed with Chef).
  • Automated role-based access control: hires and departures auto-granted or revoked the right permissions by department and manager — a system I designed and built.
  • Interviewed and hired the entire engineering team myself — sourcing through offer letters, hiring bonuses, and comp — then led IT/ops and front-end engineers and taught them to run the infrastructure on Chef → Kubernetes and the CI/CD I built.
  • Modernized developer tooling: moved source control off paid Beanstalk to a self-hosted Phabricator, then to GitHub once Teams became free — cutting cost and dropping a service to maintain — and migrated CI from Jenkins → GitHub Actions. Migrated infra Linode → GCP and Chef → Ansible (encryption-at-rest for a vendor contract), and stood up Prometheus.
  • Helped scale the business $5M → $55M ARR in a single year, absorbing several acquired sites and companies along the way.

Software Engineer — BizApps

Facebook (via Milestone)
  • Full-stack engineer on a three-person pod in the BizApps org, building internal front-end and back-end apps in Hack (Facebook PHP) and ReactJS.
  • Flagship: a Helpdesk & Logistics portal that automated much of the helpdesk's work down to a few buttons and streamlined the internal logistics team's processes.
  • Worked extensively with GraphQL and MySQL; managed cross-app state with Redux; rewrote legacy Python services into the Hack/React stack — typeaheads, asset validators (Oracle-backed), and workflow bots.
  • Prototyped hardware/IoT for the office — the vending-machine monitor and badge-in foosball leaderboard in Hardware & Embedded below.
Aug 2014 — Mar 2017

Infrastructure Operations — Co-founder → Team Lead

Facebook (via Milestone)
  • Started at the helpdesk; as the only engineer who could write substantial PowerShell, was tapped to co-found a new Infrastructure Operations team (its second member) that took operational ownership of services from central infra teams to support internal engineering.
  • Scaled the team to 7 engineers and became its lead, then grew it from a local team into a global operation, absorbing more services along the way.
  • Helped run thousands of serversLinux (RHEL/Debian/CentOS/Ubuntu/OEL) and Windows Server 2008/2012 R2, all configured with Chef; automated as much of the toil as possible.
  • VMware vSphere (ESXi + vCenter), Active Directory / Group Policy, Exchange / O365, Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop, DNS, and firewall ACLs.

I'm as at home with a soldering iron, an IR sensor, and a datasheet as I am with a Kubernetes cluster. DefCon lit the fuse — the hardware-hacking villages hooked me — and it's run as a thread ever since, from the Facebook offices to the warehouse floor to a bench full of chips at home.

Badge in, auto-scored every goal with the same sensor rig, live leaderboard on a wall-mounted TV — deployed across two offices.

Stair-aware roaming robot · Personal project

A battery-powered “shoebox” robot I built at home that roamed on its own and detected — and refused to drive down — stairs. I brought it in and it became the office's unofficial pet.

Warehouse lane scanners · The Gifting Company

Pi-based scanning hardware running extensive on-device software that sorted and routed orders across the warehouse floor.
