Joshua Glass
Tech Lead · Site Reliability Engineer
Army veteran and engineer with 10+ years across software and infrastructure — from thousands of
servers at Facebook, to rebuilding the platform, order system, and data layer behind a multi-brand e-commerce
group as it scaled $5M → $55M ARR, to a global multi-region MFA platform. Deep across
Kubernetes, multi-cloud (AWS/GCP), config management, observability, and the security bar that comes with
authentication. Equally at home writing application code and building the platform it runs on.
Experience
Senior Site Reliability Engineer → Tech Lead
Aug 2022 – Present
Duo Security (Cisco)
- Repeatedly hand-picked for cross-org “tiger teams” to deliver high-priority platform work fast, often outside any one team's scope. As Tech Lead, lead the design and delivery of platform projects, producing architecture and implementations reviewed by staff architects.
- Two months in, pulled into a three-person tiger team to build “mPoP” multiple points of presence: built the initial Kubernetes infrastructure so MFA takes the lowest-latency path and fails auth over to backup regions during a regional outage.
- Designed and onboarded entire regions, including standing up the UAE presence end-to-end.
- Refactored cross-cloud (AWS + GCP) monitoring off Python 2 and modernized ops repos to Python 3; worked across Cilium / Calico and the k8s platform.
- Promoted to Tech Lead (Nov 2024, Core Cloud Services); designed and built an internal config-management service delivering managed TOML configuration to applications and deployments.
- Built an internal AI agent that triages on-call incidents across services/repos (30-day AI initiative); now drive a security-findings program across the infrastructure.
First Software Engineer → Engineering Lead
Aug 2017 – Aug 2022
The Gifting Company — A Gift Inside · Manhattan Fruitier · Branch to Box · Loveberries
- First software-engineering hire; productionized a single-site shop into a multi-brand platform. Rebuilt nearly the entire stack — migrated a legacy CakePHP fork to Laravel and kept it current; wrote custom Laravel packages and native PHP extensions. Brought the company's first engineering discipline — CI, unit tests, and IaC, replacing the VP's fully manual, hand-deployed process.
- Architected and owned ORMAN — the custom internal platform the entire company ran on: orders & subscriptions, marketing, accounting, warehouse production, and shipment tracking across the multi-brand portfolio, plus storefronts in Laravel/CakePHP, Shopify, and Magento.
- Productionized the data layer: built a custom ORM and the shop's first read/write model (write primary + read replicas), upgraded every database; built ORMAN's accounting/analytics module — revenue, costs, and BOM spend, overall and per warehouse. Built much of ORMAN's front-end in Vue.js (custom CSS framework, later ~half Bootstrap).
- Maintained Amazon / Walmart / Sam's Club integrations; built a vendor fulfillment portal, the warehouse order-routing / package-tracking engine, and the hardware lane scanners.
- Automated role-based access control (department/manager-driven grants on hire and departure).
- Interviewed and hired the entire engineering team solo (through offer letters, hiring bonuses, and comp); led IT/front-end and taught them Chef → Kubernetes and the CI/CD I built. Modernized tooling: Beanstalk → self-hosted Phabricator → GitHub and Jenkins → GitHub Actions; migrated Linode → GCP, Chef → Ansible, stood up Prometheus.
- Helped scale the business $5M → $55M ARR in one year, absorbing several acquisitions.
Software Engineer, BizApps
Mar 2017 – Aug 2017
Facebook (via Milestone)
- Full-stack engineer on a three-person pod; built a Helpdesk & Logistics portal that automated much of the helpdesk down to a few buttons and streamlined the internal logistics team's processes.
- Built internal front/back-end apps in Hack and ReactJS; heavy GraphQL + MySQL, Redux state, and rewrote legacy Python into the internal stack.
Infrastructure Operations — Co-founder → Team Lead
Aug 2014 – Mar 2017
Facebook (via Milestone)
- Started at the helpdesk; as the only engineer who could write substantial PowerShell, tapped to co-found a new Infrastructure Operations team (second member) that took operational ownership of services from central infra teams.
- Scaled the team to 7 and became its lead, then grew it from a local team into a global operation, absorbing more services.
- Helped run thousands of servers; Linux (RHEL/Debian/CentOS/Ubuntu) + Windows Server fleets managed with Chef. VMware vSphere, Active Directory / GPO, Exchange/O365, Citrix, DNS, firewall ACLs.
Cable Systems Installer (25L) — Sergeant (E-5)
Dec 2008 – Aug 2014
United States Army
- Two Operation Enduring Freedom deployments (Afghanistan & Jordan); separated as an E-5 Sergeant.
